Electric motors can vary enormously in design and complexity and are matched to the requirements of the driven machinery or plant. Illustrated are typical motors that could be seen at any engineering works.
Motors can be specially designed to be :-
- flame proof, for hazardous areas,
- of variable speed, for complex machines or
- high voltage (3KV and above) for large power applications.
Note :- Periodic inspection and testing is advisable to check for deterioration of the bearings and winding insulation.
