The type illustrated is a two stage air compressor. These can be driven by an electric motor in the case of a static installation or a diesel/petrol engine when portable. Air compressors range from the simple single cylinder machines with small outputs for use as car tyre inflators on garage forecourts to extremely large multi stage machines providing full factory compressed air services.
Note :- It is advisable to carry out periodic examintions to check for correct "off loading" and unusual noise which may indicate developing internal problems.
