Ship-Shore Container Crane
|
|
These cranes are used on the dockside for loading/unloading container ships. In effect, they are an electric overhead crane mounted on legs. The legs have ‘rail bogies’ mounted on the bottom to provide the crane with lateral movement. The ship end of the overhead track (lattice in picture) rises to allow the ship to pass underneath. The containers are attached to the crane using a special frame which is lowered and locked onto their tops. Appropriate Legislation - LOLER |
