Portal Crane
The main area of use for this type of crane is loading and unloading ships on docksides. They have a constant safe working load for all radii, are rail mounted and electric driven with the electricity supplied by a trailing cable.
With the advent of containerisation, their use has become mainly limited to small ports but can still be found at larger ports performing grabbing duties for grain/coal handling. An average size crane would be 5 ton capacity with a jib length of 100 feet.
