Goliath and Semi-Goliath Cranes
These cranes consist of a cross beam or beams mounted on legs with rail wheels at the bottom. The largest can have capacities of around 1000 ton with a 500 foot lift height. They are usually found in shipyards, spanning the building dock.
All are electrically powered, either from a trailing cable or from their own diesel generator and are normally found outdoors. Smaller versions are to be found in steel yards (stockholders). Semi-Goliath cranes, as the name implies, have only one leg, the other end of the beam is mounted high on a single crane gantry track.
