Whilst several types and sizes are to be found, they are commonly manufactured as triple-geared or the ratchet type. They can be used for different applications during construction or maintenance work. Many are used at a fixed location. The triple gear type are extensively used in factories as lifting machines hooked on to manual trolleys and supported by runway tracks.
