Hydraulic Press
(Interlocking Guards)
Interlocking guards fitted to hydraulic presses take one of two forms. On the smaller presses, the guards form a complete screen around the tool area and operate up and down on a pantograph system, the pivot normally being the ram operating valve. This valve is set so that the guard has to be closed before the ram descends and should the guard open during a stroke, the ram stops and returns to it's starting position. The second type of guard system fitted to the larger presses takes the form of a rising screen at the front. This again, operates the ram operating valve, either directly or indirectly. The sides of the tool area in this type are protected by fixed guarding. Certain types of hydraulic presses allow the ram to complete a whole stroke once the operating pedal is activated but require some form of "hold closed" device on the interlocking guard gate.
