Friction Screw Press
|
|
These machines are very similar looking to an electric power press, but instead of a vertical fly wheel with crankshaft, they have a central screw with a large wheel, the edges of the wheel are lined with leather, keyed to the top. On top of this, there is a shaft fitted with steel discs on each side of the leather rimmed wheel. This shaft is constantly rotating and free to move sideways so that each wheel will make contact with the respective edge of the disc. This determines the direction of the screw, i.e. up or down.
